‘Springboard Art Fair’, Werkspoorkathedraal, Utrecht

From August 2022 until mid-April 2023 I lived and worked in Egypt. During the first four months there, I was a student at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo to learn the Egyptian dialect and to become more familiar with Egyptian history, culture, and politics. In addition, I took various courses such as the calligraphy principles of Naskh writing and the glazing of tiles. Subsequently, I was an artist-in-residence at the Fayoum Art Center in Tunis and had a longer working period at ARDforART in Cairo. The highlight of my stay was the teachings of Khayamiya (Tentmakers) to learn the old textile technique that has much common ground with my art practice and my field of research.

From 8 to 11 June 2023, I exhibited work that I made in Egypt during Springboard Art Fair in the Werkspoorkathedraal in Utrecht. Together with Noah Arends, Daisy Madden-Wells, Jhonie van Boeijenen Kee van der Meer, I got coached by Galerie Fleur & Wouter in preparation for Springboard Art Fair.
